Staff Travel

Staff travel can offer real scope for cutting emissions.

If more people choose public or active transport rather than driving to work, those avoided emissions represent a carbon saving for your company! While also:

To help your staff gain cycling confidence that might empower them to plump for a pedal-powered commute, Smile Cycling trains groups at a range of levels:

Level 1: basic bike handling and control (learning to stay on, stay vigilant and stay in calm control - OFF-ROAD);

Level 2: simple on-road manoeuvres, junctions etc., and essential road-sharing skills;

Level 3: urban jungle – noisy town centre at rush hour!

Staff cycle training info

As an example, Smile Cycling could train:

- 6 people to level 2 in 1 day (guide price £333),

and to level 3 in 1.5 days (guide price £481).

- 12 people to level 2 in 2 days (guide price £629),

and to level 3 in 3 days (guide price £925).

Level 1 + 2 = 9.5 hours of each learner's time.

Level 1 + 2 + 3 = 11.5 hours of each learner's time.

Prices and timings include:

✅ A pre-session interactive video call/presentation for the whole group to be trained (about 1.5 hours),

✅ The in-person delivery hours for your chosen level of teaching (Level 1, 2, potentially 3),

✅ Individual check-in with learners after 2 weeks, to answer any questions or help overcome difficulties.

Optional additions:

✅ Individual and company-level calculation of your company’s “before and after” carbon footprint associated with staff travel - £5 per learner.

✅ Post-course monitoring of overall progress and carbon savings, after 3 months (how many journeys were ACTUALLY cycled?) - £5 per learner.

To encourage your staff to cycle, please consider some practical ways to help:

✅ Bike storage – are there sufficient cycle hoops to lock bikes to? Near the building entrance/exit? Ideally covered, to protect cycles in poor weather?

✅ Can your employees shower at work if they’ve had a strenuous cycle in?

✅ Can wet clothes be hung somewhere safe where they’ll dry during the day?

✅ If your company offers the Cycle to Work scheme, might bike recipients benefit from an initial cycling lesson?
