Passion and purpose: your Smile Cycling instructor
I'm Jenny, and I've been using bicycles to get around for over 35 years!
My memorable experiences of cycling include:

-
Playing follow-the-leader on bikes with my siblings at age 13ish (drawing chalk arrows at junctions to tell each other which way we'd gone),
-
Yelling at the wind on Blackpool promenade as I battled my way to work as a teenager,
-
Mountain bike riding and racing in South Wales in my 20s,
-
A 10-mile cycle commute to work (involving a horrid 50mph bypass) when I lived in SW France in my 30s.
These days my regular rides include back and forths between Kendal and Sedbergh, and bike-train-bike commutes from Kendal to Lancaster Uni, where I work part-time in an industry-leading climate research consultancy, Small World Consulting: https://www.sw-consulting.co.uk/ .
As a long-time advocate of low-impact living, I gained an environment-related MSc in 2020, which sharpened an underlying interest in changing day-to-day transport choices and behaviours.

An assertive yet considerate cyclist, I'm passionate about enabling others to enjoy cycling safely, spend more time outside on two wheels and leave the car at home as often as possible.

As well as holding a National Standard certificate in cycling instruction, I am DBS-certified, and qualified in safeguarding and first aid.
Cycling aside, I regularly run in the beautiful Lake District and Howgill Fells, read a lot of “eco-stuff”, and am also trying to learn to play the guitar and win the odd game of chess...
